The Ordinary General Assembly of the Union of Arab Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions (UAESCSI) was held on October 23, 2025, in Algiers. The session was co-chaired by Professor Mohamed Boukhari, President of both the Union and the National Economic, Social, and Environmental Council (NESEC) of Algeria, alongside Dr. Musa Ayoub Shteiwi, Vice-President of the Union and President of the Economic and Social Council of Jordan.
The General Assembly was attended by the presidents and representatives of Arab economic and social councils and institutions from the following nations: the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Republic of the Sudan, the State of Palestine, the Republic of Lebanon, the Kingdom of Morocco, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the Republic of Yemen.
The assembly’s deliberations focused on the following key items:
- Presentation and adoption of the administrative and financial reports.
- Approval of the proposal to extend the current mandate.
- Presentation and adoption of the Union's draft action plan.
- Reading of the General Assembly's resolutions and the final communiqué.
The session concluded with the unanimous adoption of the final communiqué and all resolutions arising from the proceedings. Furthermore, members voted unanimously to extend Algeria's NESEC presidency of the Union for an additional, renewable one-year term. This extension followed a thorough evaluation of the milestones achieved under the established action plan, in accordance with agreed performance standards.
The participating delegations expressed their sincere gratitude to the Algerian authorities for their warm hospitality and exceptional reception. They also commended the extensive efforts deployed by the NESEC to ensure the success of the General Assembly, as well as its ongoing initiatives to revitalize and intensify the Union's activities under its current leadership.
In closing, the members of the Union expressed their profound appreciation and deep gratitude to Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, for approving the allocation of a permanent headquarters for the Union in Algiers. This gesture underscores a strong commitment to the continuity and strengthening of joint Arab action.
