The Arab Labour Organization (ALO), in cooperation with the Arab Institute for Labour Education and Research in Algeria and the Arab Center for Human Resources Development in Libya, and in partnership with the Union of Arab Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions, organized an Arab symposium in Algiers on October 22 and 23, 2025. Held under the high patronage of the Algerian Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, the symposium titled: "Artificial Intelligence Techniques and the Future of Human Skills." This event aligns with the Arab Labour Organization’s ongoing efforts to promote and develop the role of the three production parties across Arab states.
The symposium was attended by the presidents and representatives of councils from Arab member states of the Union of Arab Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions, alongside representatives from:
- The three production parties in Arab countries;
- The Union of Arab Chambers;
- The International Federation of Arab Trade Unions;
- The Executive Bureau of Labour Ministers and the Council of Ministers of Social Affairs of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries;
As well as a panel of high-level Arab experts.
During the opening session, Professor Mohamed Boukhari, President of the National Economic, Social and Environmental Council and President of the Union of Arab Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions, delivered the opening address. He expressed his profound gratitude to His Excellency Mr. Fayez Al-Mutairi, Director-General of the Arab Labour Organization, for organizing this high-level symposium and highlighting the importance of its theme, while commending the ALO's pivotal role in supporting Arab social dialogue.
The symposium's proceedings featured presentations led by Arab experts, structured around the following core themes and approaches:
Theme 1: The impact of artificial intelligence techniques on labour market structures and the classification of professions and jobs.
Theme 2: The role of social dialogue in adapting to changes arising from the digital transition.
Theme 3: Future trends in human skills development.
Theme 4: The role of digital media in forecasting skills and meeting labour market demands.
The event also featured comprehensive discussion sessions aimed at deepening the understanding of AI's impact on reshaping Arab labour markets, anticipating future skill requirements and supporting human resource development and upskilling strategies to align fully with the demands of the digital economy and technological transformation.
