The Union of Arab Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions participated in the Euro-Mediterranean Summit of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions, held on June 23–24, 2025, in Istanbul, Turkey.
On this occasion, Dr. Musa Shteiwi, President of the Jordanian Economic and Social Council, acting in his capacity as Vice-President of the Union, delivered an address on behalf of the Union's President, Professor Mohamed Boukhari, President of the Algerian Economic, Social and Environmental Council. It is worth noting that the core content of this speech had previously been discussed and reviewed during a Board of Directors meeting held via videoconference on June 16, 2025.
The address, delivered on behalf of the Union, put forward several major proposals aimed at consolidating the Euro-Mediterranean partnership and enhancing regional coordination on priority issues facing countries across the Mediterranean region. These proposals are structured as follows:
Establishing integrated industrial competitiveness clusters within the Mediterranean region;
Strengthening cross-border trade routes and corridors;
Developing a joint strategy for green mobility in the Mediterranean to promote clean and efficient transport;
Consolidating sustainable energy interconnections between the two shores of the Mediterranean;
Implementing a shared, integrated approach to address the climate vulnerabilities of Mediterranean countries, while simultaneously identifying joint adaptation and mitigation projects;
Developing a cooperative platform for major risk management between Euro-Med countries and those on the southern shore of the Mediterranean;
Promoting a shared vision for cohesive and harmonious human development across the Euro-Mediterranean region;
Leveraging digitalization as a driver for regional integration and synergy;
Instituting a robust regulatory framework to facilitate coordination and consultation within the Euro-Mediterranean space;
Adopting an effective policy to support the legal mobility of individuals.
